happy birthday erin!!

I'm out for Erin's birthday tonight and we are at Jakes and I have made a few observations

1. allison can not play card games.... we were playing a card game i learned in florida where you have to say a word that starts with the first letter of the number on the card.
the card was a five and she said penguin. (yeah i live with smart people)

2. Jakes is the place to go if you have a fake ID and you are freshmen. there is a kid next to use who looks eight.

3. when you are at the bar and you are blogging from your phone people look at you funny.

4. it is shockingly cold at jakes... they have a window open (it's crazy)

5. allison seems to think i don't blog about her enough.

6. where we are sitting you can hear two different songs at once.

7. taking pictures is one of my favorite thing to do.

8. birthdays are fun

9. you shouldn't wear shorts to the bar when it is march.

10. they have a game where you can kill safari animals... and I feel a little bad for the fake animals.

11. if you get in to a fight at Summit 8 cop cars, an ambulance, and a fire truck will show up... and no one will get arrested.

ps: happy birthday erin

Stupid nice weather...

I spent last week in Florida where it was literally nicer in Iowa then in Jacksonville. But I accepted it and I was okay with the idea of Florida being a little chilly. I mean I did live there for 8 months and I know that it isn’t always sunny and they do have different seasons.

But what I am not okay with is it being nicer in Iowa. (Today isn’t a great example because it is in the 40’s). But the past couple of days it has been freakishly nice out and once again I am left wondering where all the snow went.

There are so many things I wasn’t able to do this winter. Like build a snow man, Have a snow ball fight, Catch snowflakes on my tongue, etc

Sure I can’t remember the last time I actually attempted to make a snow man but it is the idea that I won’t be able to make one this year that makes me angry.

I think I am allowed to hang on to the idea of snow until March is over. And I realize that once April comes around there will be no chance of snow and if it does snow it will be the fake ran/cold/snow crap.

So I’m currently annoyed with this nice weather we have been having and I know in a month I will love it, but as of right now I’m allowed to be annoyed.

Walt Disney World

Yesterday Kinsey and I went to go visit Jeremy at Walt Disney World!!

We started off the day by taking john to work at 6:00am and then driving to Orlando. (it was 3 hours of fun, especially getting stuck in traffic).

Once we arrived in Orlando we picked up Jeremy and headed off to magic kingdom. There we watched phillar magic (my favorite), rode Aladdin’s magic carpet ride (I can now actually say I have ridden every ride at magic kingdom), snow white scary adventures, and watched the new street party parade.
We really didn’t do that much. But we took lots of photos and had a blast.

We then headed off to Hollywood studios where we watched the block party bash (Kinsey and I danced it in… pictures coming soon), High School Musical 3, went on the great movie ride, and got ice cream (I was really excited about ice cream). We also spent a lot of time talking to cast members I use to work with.
Here are a few pictures that I thought were important enough to go on my blog.

our buttons. we got a lot of comments on them. (basically it was awesome)

Kinsey really really wanted to get hats. so we got these. they were on sale and say "I never want to grow up."
we also got our names put on the back of them

The only characters we meet. Kinsey thought it was fully awesome. (they also really liked out buttons)

In front of tower of terror... we didn't go on it bc it was a 80 minutes wait (i'm still in the mind set that you should never wait more then 20 minutes for a ride)
In front of the hat waiting for the block party bash (it is still my fav)
Apparently they still gave out magical moments. Kinsey wrote a letter to the Incredibles saying that meet the robinsons were better, jeremy wrote his to the stars of bolt, and i wrote mine to snow white.

Our real magical moment happened when we went to get buttons from guest relations. they asked if there was just 3 people in our party and we said yes and then they asked if we were leaving the park and i said no. finally she asked if have gone on toy story yet and we said no because the line was to long. and then she gave us fast passes to toy story and said "i was waiting for a cute family to give them to" (apparently we are cute and Jeremy is our brother)

it was awesome. kinsey was super excited!

but of course we were 20 people away from getting on the ride and it broke down :( so we didn't get to ride it. they did give us fast passes that we could use until the 31st, but of course we were only there for the day so we gave them to Jeremy (and he better use them... or else)

Jeremy and Booze

Jeremy wrote a blog about a youtube video he was in and I just had a chance to look at it.

It is a spoof on the youtube video called shoes.
He is the guy in the hat and overalls… he also wears a spandex suit in the video.

Bootcamp and the airport

Kinsey and I spent 2-3 hours last night sitting at the Chicago airport watching a group of individuals go off to bootcamp.

Here are a few things I have learned from observing the navy ROTC recruits

1. after you arrive at the airport for boot camp they give you a list of rules to follow for the next 1-2 hours.

a. You have to hold your army record in your left hand and you can not look at it
b. You have to hold you bag in your right hand (you are not allowed to put it around your shoulder.)
c. You are not allowed to bring food, cigarettes, lighters, liquids with you and they have four containers for you to put them in
d. You have to sit in front of a wall, stare straight forward, and you can not talk to your neighbor e. You can also stand straight forward
f. Girls and guys are separated

2. There was about a 1:13 girl to boy ratio

3. the officers will eat the food (especially M&M when you have to turn them in) or smoke your cigarettes

4. they will also make fun of you

5. the recruits will look at you when you sit behind them and talk really loudly about pointless stuff (or when you are playing and intense game of war) and when they look at you they will get yelled at.

6. you can only read your army guide (or something like that) and religious text

7. when you leave to go to boot camp they will tell you

a. you are not allowed to talk or fall asleep on the bus
b. it is a 40 min bus ride
c. you will watch a 20 minute video that will teach you everything you need to know about bootcamp
d. boys will fill the bus up from the back to the front. The last seat will have 3 guys in it (and they will know if you do not fill up the bus correctly)
e. girls will fill in the bus from front to back
f. girls no longer exist to boys and boys no longer exist to girls.
g. Girls will be treated just like boys because “it is an equal opportunity world”
h. Girls must walk 10 feet behind the boys
i. The last person in each row will sound off (I’m still not sure what that means)

8. the officers will begin to become really good looking after you watch them for a couple of hours yelling at people. (you will also have a great desire to join the navy for the chance to become one of these officers)

In conclusion being stuck at the airport is very exciting when you get to watch kids go off to bootcamp

kinsey also said she will blog about... but who knows.

This is a picture of the second group (the first group had around 40 people) after they have been sitting for about an hour and one of the officers finally told them if they were tired they could stand up.

i wanted to take a better picture but was to afraid i was going to get yelled at.

Kassie and Florida

Today we arrived in Jacksonville, FL and I’m pretty sure it was nicer in iowa then here. Which really stinks considering I was hoping to become tan (well at least a nice shade of pink) over the week.

The highlight of my day today was that we went to CiCi. It reminded me of Orlando (minus the fact that they didn’t have chesse sticks) I’m actually shocked we went considering Kassie hates it. But I guess I have some kind of power over her.

I also started taking down the wallpaper in her bathroom… it is my baby shower gift for graham (I figured when he is 16 and brings a girl over he will be glad his bathroom doesn’t have wallpaper… I’m looking into the future)
Hopefully I finish by tomorrow.

Kassie is having her baby shower on Saturday and we are going out to eat on Friday (with some of her friends).

I'm really excited that I get to see Jeremy on Thursday… and get to go back to Disney for a day.
i am so so very excited!!!!!!!
(but i am also really excited to hang out with Kassie)

Ken Ken

This weekend Stephanie and me were trying to waste some time and we decided to try this new game called “Ken Ken.”

I read about it in Time magazine and have seen the puzzles in the New York Times.
The first when we did took us about 20 minutes… but after that we became pros
(well I became a pro we sat outside for 2 hours doing the puzzles and I won every time…)

The basis of the game is kind of like sudoko, but better.

On a 4 by 4 grid. You have to have 1-4 horizontally and vertically.
Each couple of squares is a simple math problem (i.e. 2-, 12x, etc.)

you figure out the math problem only by using number between 1-4. (i.e to get 2- it would be 4 and 2 or 3 and 1)

Free Throws

I remember having to take Kinsey to basketball practice every day at 7:30 am just for she could practice her free throws with her team. And I always thought the same thing… you should always be able to make them if you are putting in 2 1/2 hours every weak just to practice your free throws.

The only basketball knowledge I have is what Kinsey told me years ago (and to be honest I should find a better person). Which mostly consist of “it’s harder than it looks”

but my theory is if she had to practice every morning to perfect her free throw skills then college players (or even professional players) should always be able to make a free throw.

I figure if Kinsey had to spend 10 hours a month for 3-4 months.. that is like 30-40 hours a year on practicing. Someone who is actually good would spend 3 times that trying to perfect their skills (I’m not good at math so you don’t get a number)

But I’m not a huge sports fan so I really have no idea how hard it is to make a free throw, but I also assume that if you are a college basketball there should be no reason why you cannot make one.

I have lived with this theory for almost 8 years now and I just learned that I was wrong and Kinsey was right… I guess it really is hard to make a free throw

There was a New York Times article published last week called "For Free Throws, 50 Years of Practice is no help"

and it stated that ...

"Since the mid-1960s, college men’s players have made about 69 percent of free throws..... It has dropped as low as 67.1 but never topped 70."

national geographic

I just discovered that the National Geographic Channel existed and I spend way to much time watching it.
in the best week I have watched multiple shows about the Nazi, KKK, killer bees, etc...

and I have decided it would be awesome to be an actor on one of these episodes (well as long as you were a good guy.... pretending to be Hitler would probably suck)

reasons number one why I hate that I don't have a computer.

..... each time I open up Microsoft Word on the library computers the automatic setting drive me insane.
a) font style is Calibri.
b) font size is 11.
c) it automatically puts spaces in between each one of your paragraphs (it took me like 3 weeks to figure out how to make this go away)

I have never had a teacher state "I want you to type your essay in size 11 Calibri font."

it is super annoying.

the other day I went grocery shopping and I decided to buy a couple of oranges bc I haven't had one in ages (i know it is hard to believe considering I lived in Florida for 8 months.)

this morning I decided to eat one for breakfast and i seem to forget how difficult it is to peel an orange. normally i would have just cut it in half but i really want to eat it on the go and obviously that would require that there be no peel.

so, I begin to attempt to do it with my hands and it literally takes me 5 minutes to get the peel of the orange and of course I'm now covered in "orange juice" so I have to go change (it would have taken less time for me just to cut the orange in half and eat it right there instead of on my way to class).

but anyway the point of my story. when I was standing there trying to peel this stupid orange I realized that if I was on a deserted island and all they had was orange I would probably die.
bc I'm pretty sure when I watched lost last week they were eating an orange (or something like an orange) and they were able to get the peel off with no problem.

and then I continued to think about it and realized I would probably die anyways because I have no idea how to swim. (and the only way I could end up on a deserted island would be if my plane fell into a body of water).
... and then i was okay with the idea that i have no idea to peel an orange. bc I would probably have to deal with the issue of not being able to swim before I was put in a situation where the only thing I had to eat was oranges.
